This is the first painting of my residency in Lloret de Mar, a place better known for sun and parties than for its history. The piece echoes the Revolta dels Joseps (1788–89), when local fishermen rebelled against royal taxes and the weight of the king’s authority. Lloret appears in the background, quiet and watchful, while the kingfishers gather around a glowing fish — a small reminder of how easily human nature is drawn to bright, shimmering things.
